iPhone 4 Antenna Fix Needs a Fix Itself

2010 July 16
by macjeff

Apple today announced that it will refund purchased bumpers or give current iPhone 4 owners a free but has anyone tried the bumpers?   Apple sent the manufacturer the exact specs including the spec for the new cable that comes with it.  It fits the iphone just fine and the cable that came with it but no other accessories work.  Even older Apple cables, current docks, and the video out cables don’t work with it.  Car adapters wont work either.   That means taking the bumper on and off every time you want to plug it in an accessory.  NO WAY!!!   The bumper is useless Apple.  Time to recall the bumper and fix it.  SendStation has told us that they are working on an adapter.  They will sell a bunch because it will be easier to put one on the end of each cable rather then keep one in your pocket to put on the phone constantly.

iOS 4 and iPhone 4 Bugs (Updated)

2010 June 30
by macjeff

This post will be an ongoing post. I will list bugs. If you have bugs please post a comment. Our bug reports are sent directly to Apple and any updates will be posted here.  Bugs in RED are reported but not fixed yet.  Bugs in BLUE have been fixed and read the post for update on what the fix is or how to get the fix.  Bugs in GREEN have a workaround.

1. Open In Bug (iOS 4 and iPhone 4)- When clicking on a file in mail and then choosing open in, it gives you a list of apps to open the file in. The icon of the LAST item is showing in the first item. Here are two pictures illustrating the bug.

2. Camera Bug (iPhone 4) Some users reporting that their camera app is freezing and even after a reboot won’t work.

3. Famous Antenna Bug- (iPhone 4).  Most users have issues when holding iPhone 4 on the bottom left.   First fix is the bumpers.   Second is a small piece of scotch tape covering the black connection on the bottom left side of phone where the two metal pieces meet.   Third is a promised fix from Apple to force the iPhone to change frequencies.   (As of now the fix is not out yet).

4. Dreaded MobileMe bug- (iOS 4 and even earlier iOS versions)  For some reason yet undetermined, new contacts added anywhere but the contacts app will go into the phone but NOT the mobile me contact group.  If your contact is missing from MobileMe contacts list on phone (and you dont have a second source of contacts on the phone), confirm this is your issue do a spotlight search on the phone for the contact.  If  the contact shows up but nowhere else to be found you have the bug.  Workaround is to go into itunes and choose to sync contacts and replace contacts on phone.  LEAVE MobileMe on the phone and keep replacing.  Then try to add a contact to MobileMe.  If it adds you are ok, if not try again.  It took me about 5 tries until it finally started working.  Restoring from a backup works ONLY if it is before the problem started happening.  If you have not added a contact in a while  (or not realized it was not in MobileMe) then you may not be missing anything.

5. Hold Button Gone (iPhone 4)- Hold button was replaced by FaceTime.  No way to put call on hold.  Update- Hold the mute button during call puts call on hold.  Also if you choose add call and then choose another call it automatically puts the first call on hold and asks you if you want to merge or swap calls.

6. Birthday Calendar Color Change- (iOS 4)  You can not change the color of the Birthdays Calendar, new to iOS4.  It picks a color randomly and you can never change it without a restore.

7. Limit to Number of Apps with Settings- (iOS 4 but ONLY on 3G OR 3GS).  If you have more then 90 apps with settings in the Apple Settings App, the Settings App may crash on lauch.  More then 100 and it may auto reboot your phone.  We believe this is due to memory in iPhone.  Iphone 4 has double the RAM and does not have the issue.

8. Limit to Number of Apps with Notifications- (iOS 4 but ONLY on 3G OR 3GS)- If you have more then 60 apps with Notifications in the Apple Settings App, the Settings App may crash on lauch.  More then 70 and it may auto reboot your phone.  We believe this is due to memory in iPhone.  Iphone 4 has double the RAM and does not have the issue.

9. Exchange Bug- Problems with Microsoft Exchange Servers.  Fix is out.  Log into this URL from your iPhone browser and click this  link

10. Proximity Alert Bug- (iOS 4)- Many users have reported issues with iPhone 4 and the proximity sensor.  We have duplicated these issues on a 3GS running iOS 4 so we think it is a software issue.  The proximity sensor is a sensor that senses your face getting close to the phone.  It turns the display off so your face does not push buttons.  You can test it by putting the palm of your hand over the top front of the phone during a call.  It should go black before you touch it.  The bug is that it will not go black and cause buttons to push such as mute, FaceTime, and others.

(More to come)

*iPhone 4 Pre-Orders Arrive 2 Days Early?

2010 June 22
by macjeff

Reports are coming in of iPhone 4 orders coming in already. Originally Apple said the 24th of June but changed it to the 23rd of June for shipments (not retail) so that shipped iPhone activations would not bring down the stores on the 24th. But now people have them on the 22nd.
